Balboa Park AYSO 2008 Playoffs – Rules and Tie Breaker Format
Playoff Rules: ¾ minimum play time is required. No player may play 4 quarters unless all players have played 3 quarters. AR’s are requested to help in monitoring this. There are no goalkeeper playtime restrictions during playoffs. Overtime periods have no restrictions regarding playtime.
Player maximum/minimum numbers on the field: U10 8/5; U12 9/6; U14 11/7
The following format is to be used for games that may not end in a tie:
For games that require a winner and which end regulation play (regulation game length is 2x24 minutes for U10, 2x25 for U12 and 2x30 for U14) in a tie, the following rules will apply:
There shall be two (2) overtime periods of five (5) minutes each. Both overtime periods will be played; there shall be no ‘sudden victory’ and no winner declared after the first overtime period.
There will be a coin toss prior to the first overtime period with the winner of the coin toss choosing a side and the loser kicking off the first period. The teams will alternate sides and kickoff for the second period.
The teams will play with their regular complement of players unless they are playing short due to attendance or send-offs. There are no minimum play requirements for the overtime periods.
If the match remains tied after the overtime periods, the winner shall be determined by ‘kicks from the penalty mark’; best of five wins. The order shall be determined by coin toss with the winner choosing the order of shooting.
The players may be chosen from all eligible roster players on the field at the completion of the second overtime period (and not sent off). If there is still a tie after the 5 kicks, kicks shall be taken one (1) at a time until a winner is determined. All eligible players must complete kicks before any player may kick again, except that a team with a greater number of eligible players shall exclude players from the shootout such that both teams have an equal number of players eligible. The goalkeeper also must come from the players on the field at the completion of the second overtime period. The goalkeeper may also be one of the players to take the kicks.
