AYSO REGION 33 - ENCINO, CA (Balboa Park)

AYSO REGION 33: STEP-BY-STEP REGISTRATION & CERTIFICATION PROCEDURE FOR REGIONAL REFEREES AND ASSISTANT REFEREES (Fall 2023)

 All Regional Referees and Assistant Referees MUST complete ALL of the following:

1. Register with AYSO Region 33 (includes background check).       

2. Complete the following four (4) AYSO online courses: “Safe Haven,” “Concussion Awareness,” “Sudden Cardiac Arrest” and “Regional Referee.” 
NOTE: If you have taken any of these courses in the past, you do not need to retake them if you have proof

3. Complete the State of California-required “Safe Sport” online course.                    
NOTE: If you have taken this in the past, you only need to take the shorter refresher course

4. Complete the In-Person Referee Field Training.                                                
NOTE: If you have taken this in the past, you do not need to retake it if you have proof

5. Complete the State of California-required Fingerprint live-scan processing.
NOTE: If you have taken this through AYSO in the past, you do not need to retake it if you have proof

IMPORTANT TO READ:  Our Region will pay the fees for the background check and fingerprinting.  If you are not given an option for our Region to pay upfront, email Regional Commissioner Mark Lambert at [email protected]

                                                                                        

Step 1:  Register with AYSO Region 33 as a volunteer

Go to our website: www.ayso33.org

1.    Log in to the website (username, password)

2.    Click on “Volunteer” (top left side of your screen)

3.    Scroll to the bottom of your screen and click on “Volunteer” (in blue type)

4.    Go to “2024 Fall Soccer” and click on “View Divisions” (right side of your screen”)

5.    Scroll down to the Division your child (or one of your children) is registered in (for example, 06U-Boys, 06U-Girls, etc.),  put a check in the box, and click on “View Selected Opportunities” (bottom right of your screen).                                                               
NOTE: If you do not have a child registered, just choose any Division)

6.    A list of available positions will appear (scroll to the right to see the full list)

7.    Go to the box that says “Referee/Assistant Referee” and click on the blue “Select” button.

8.    Click your name on the “Sign Up” button that will appear.  Once you do, click on the “Continue” button (on the bottom right of your screen)

9.    You will then be presented with a form you will be asked to complete.  Fill out the form completely.  Make sure to click “Accept” for the “waiver of liability” and “background check” options.  Our Region will pay for the background check.

10.IMPORTANT TO READIf you complete the process correctly, you should very soon get an email from “Sterling Volunteers,” the business which conducts the background checks (check your spam folder, too).  If you get it, respond and the background check will be initiated.  If you do not get it, email our registrar: [email protected]

 

Step 2:  Complete ALL of the following AYSO online courses: “Safe Haven,” “Concussion,” “Sudden Cardiac Arrest” and “Regional Referee.”

A.  Complete the Safe Haven Course (Online)

Go to our website: www.ayso33.org

1.     Log in to the website (username, password)

2.     Click on “Volunteer” (top left side of your screen).  You will soon be automatically logged in.

3.     Click on “AYSOU”  (top far right side of your screen)

4.    Click on “Training Library” (left side of your screen)

5.    Go to the box that says, “Safe Haven” and click on “View Courses”

6.    Go to the box that says, “AYSO’s Safe Haven 2022 (No Audio)” and click on “Enroll”

7.    Take and complete the course

8.    Upload the Course Completion Certificate (and also print a copy for your records.)

B.  Complete the Concussion Awareness Course (Online)

1.    Go to our website: www.ayso33.org

2.    Log in to the website (username, password)

3.     Click on “Volunteer” (top left side of your screen)

4.     Click on “AYSOU”  (top far right side of your screen, under the box that says ‘Find Volunteer Roles”)

5.    Click on “Training Library” (left side of your screen)

6.    Go to the box that says, “Safe Haven” and click on “View Courses”

7.    Go to the box that says. “CDC Concussion Awareness – Online” and click on “Enroll”

8.    Take and complete the course

9.    Upload the Course Completion Certificate (and also print a copy for your records.)

C.  Complete the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Course (Online)

1.    Go to our website: www.ayso33.org

2.    Log in to the website (username, password)

3.     Click on “Volunteer” (top left side of your screen)

4.     Click on “AYSOU”  (top far right side of your screen, under the box that says ‘Find Volunteer Roles”)

5.    Click on “Training Library” (left side of your screen)

6.    Go to the box that says, “Safe Haven” and click on “View Courses”

7.    Go to the box that says, “Sudden Cardiac Arrest – Online” and click on “Enroll”

8.    Take and complete the course

9.    Upload the Course Completion Certificate (and also print a copy for your records.)

 

D. Complete the Regional Referee Course (Online)

1.    Go to our website: www.ayso33.org

2.    Log in to the website (username, password)

3.    Click on “Volunteer” (top left side of your screen)

4.    Click on “AYSOU”  (top far right side of your screen)

5.    Click on “Training Library” (left side of your screen)

6.    Go to the box that says “Refereeing” and click on “View Courses”

7.    Click on “Regional Referee-Full In-Person Course”

8.    Take and complete the course

10.Upload the Course Completion Certificate (and also print a copy for your records.)

 

Step 3:  Complete the State of California online “Safe Sport” course.

(NOTE:  Beginning Jan 1, 2022, the State of California required all youth sports referees/assistant referees to complete “Safe Sport” training.  A refresher course must be completed every year for the next 2 years.)

2.    Log in to the website (username, password)

3.     Click on “Volunteer” (top left side of your screen)

4.     Click on “AYSOU”  (top far right side of your screen, under the box that says ‘Find Volunteer Roles”)

5.    Click on “Training Library” (left side of your screen)

6.    Go to the box that says, “Safe Haven” and click on “View Courses”

7.    Go to the box that says, “Access your Safe Sport Course” and click on “Enroll”

8.    Take and complete the course

9.    Upload the Course Completion Certificate (and also print a copy for your records.)

 

 

Step 4:   Complete IN-PERSON Referee Field Training

BEST OPTION:
OUR AYSO 33 REFEREE TRAININGSATURDAY, JULY 27, 2024      
LOCATION:  17529 Rancho Street, Encino
DETAILS:
We will spend the better part of the day together in a relaxed, fun atmosphere as we train you to referee youth soccer games.  Coffee and pastries will be served in the morning with lunch at noon.  Once you take this training, we will issue uniforms and equipment to you and you will be on your way.

ONLY IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND OUR TRAINING ON JULY 27, Here is how to find other training you can attend:

1.    Go to our website: www.ayso33.org

2.    Log in to the website (username, password)

3.     Click on “Volunteer” (top left side of your screen)

4.     Click on “AYSOU”  (top far right side of your screen)

5.    Click on “Training Event” (left side of your screen)

6.    Search for the “Regional Referee” course you want to take.  At the top of the calendar, you can filter your search in the box marked “Regions,” “Locations” and “Courses.”  You will be presented with a list of courses scheduled for the current month.  You can also click the arrow on the right of the current month to find the “Regional Referee” courses scheduled for future months.

NOTE #1:  Courses will be added to the list, especially when we get closer to the start of the season.  Keep checking.

NOTE #2: You are NOT required to take training offered by our Area (10V) or Region (33).  You can take it anywhere.  We will reimburse you for the course fee, just keep your receipt (we do NOT reimburse for gas or other travel expenses).

7.    When you find the class you want to take, click on the “Enroll” tab on the lower, far right of the box that offers the course. 

8.    Attend and complete the course

9.    VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure you ask the instructor for a Course Completion Certificate

  

Step 5:  Complete Fingerprint processing (State Requirement)

1.     We will arrange to have the live-scan fingerprinting process made available to all volunteers.

2.    Details on how to sign up and enroll will be forthcoming.
